BEST PURCHASE EVER
I am very impressed by this camera. Very high quality with endless great usable features.
I’m not an IT guy, but I got it to work
I set up 5 Amcrest cameras over the last week – they are easy to work with. The instructional videos on YouTube make setup easy to do as you follow along. These cameras require two reboots through the web access interface (config programme) to set up properly. One for formatting the SD card, the other for the firmware update (for the 1080P cameras I had to download the updates from the Amcrest website and have the camera upgrade from the file on my desktop – no auto upgrade).
Good picture quality, good low light, good software and configuration options.
I started ditching Foscam for these, and they are noticeably better. The picture quality is very good, and the night vision is great. The software is considerably better and the added features are great. I like the outputs for external alarms, and all the flexibility in the software to setup. I’m impressed by these and they seem to need a lot less attention than the Foscams they replace with a similar form and function and much improved software and firmware. I manually installed this, so can’t comment on the whole QR code setup. I was up and running in less than 5 minutes though, just wired in by Ethernet, set up a static IP and port and then plugged into the software. I also use these with Blue Iris and Tinycam Monitor.
Works very well with the Surveillance Station app of my Synology DS414 Slim which handles the minority of my surveillance cameras. Tinkering with the settings, I found that it could also work well as a stand-alone unit which can save into a micro SD card. It could also save into an FTP and NAS storage locations, but I found it hard to set up (but I didn’t mind since I intended to use this with my DS414 Slim).

Installation and setup is easy peasy. Setup to record video is just a little more difficult, but I kept at it and got it done without help. Video is good, and it’s nice to be able to control the camera view remotely. I’ve got it set up to record to a 1Tb drive, which will cover 26 days of 1080p HD video.

This product is very impressive. I had a few challenges in getting it to work with my router set-up (cell phone connection), but I called Amcrest’s 1-888-# and SHANE totally helped me out. It took several minutes, but he masterfully worked through my modem and router issues. Everything works great and the camera has numerous features that really impress me! Two way communication, night vision, zoom & focus, alerts, and a number of ‘log-in to view’ possibilities. I appreciate the added ‘peace of mind’ these safety/security cameras provide!
It’s okay for now
After trying out unsuccessfully several wifi cameras, I decide to give Amcrest IP camera a try.
Absolutely love these cameras. I had any number of Foscams over the past 6 (wow, 6 years already), running opensource security software. They were good for their day, but MJPEG is getting old. These are H.264.
